Channel 4 HD

Channel 4 HD Logo Channel 4 HD is a high definition simulcast channel from Channel 4.

Channel 4 HD broadcasts the same schedule as the standard definition channel, Channel 4. Content is broadcast in high definition where available, or is upscaled where it is not available in high definition.

Broadcasting at a higher bitrate, the picture quality of even upscaled content is improved when compared to the standard definition channel.

How to watch Channel 4 HD

Channel 4 HD is Free to view, which means that it is encrypted and is only available on a Sky HD box with a viewing card. The channel is available without subscription to either Sky TV or the Sky HD Mix/Pack as long as you have a Sky Viewing Card. This means that all you require to watch this channel is a High Defintion set-top box and a Sky Viewing Card. A Sky Viewing Card can be obtained by either subscribing to a Sky package (HD is not required), buying a "Pay Once, Watch Forever" card, buying a "Freesat From Sky" card, or using an Ex-Subscription card.

History of Channel 4 HD

Channel 4 HD launched on 10th December 2007. The channel usually broadcasts at least 2 hours of high definition content per day, but this can be as high as 7/8 hours per day.

On Monday, 2nd June 2008, Channel 4 became the first terrestrial broadcaster in the UK to show one of the UK's soaps, Hollyoaks, in High Definition.
